Why are Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolfman still such big stars?
The monsters of Universal horror films are all at least 50 years old, and many are much older. But even people who haven't seen these movies still know Lugosi's Dracula, Karloff's Frankenstein, and Chaney's Wolfman.
With all the amazing monsters in today's movies, why are these oldies still so popular?

Actually, some of it has to do with HOW they were made; many had limited budgets, and had to use lighting and other tricks to build atmosphere to make their limited special effects go over.

they are much older than that, but I would say they are so popular because they were among the first portrayed in successful movies.
