What is Vampire the Masquerade?

I have tried doing some research on it and have found some sites that say it is a book, some say it's a .pdf file, some say it is a group of people that meet up for role-playing, some say it's a video game, and some say it's all three. I am interested in getting information on all of the above. If you have any information to offer, please do :)

Vampires: the Masquerade is the modern-day setting of the vampire section of White Wolf Games’ World of Darkness universe (Vampires: The Dark Ages is the medieval setting). White Wolf is a publisher of pencil and paper role-playing games (Dungeons and Dragons beign the most famous of the pencil and paper RPGs). Primarily, it is a series of books, which get refined and revised every few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if they publish PDFs of their older versions online, as some companies do this. The game mechanics and setting were also used for at least two video games (Vampires: the Masquerade: Bloodlines and Vampires: the Masquerade: Redemption, one of which was the first game published to use the Half-Life2 game engine).

It started out as a role-playing game by White Wolf Games, moved on to become a card game, then a series of computer games. So - it’s kind of all three.
