Poe’s greatest contribution is the building of the suspense and timing. His work also brings the psychological aspect to the genre.

He invented the detective story with Murder in the Rue Morgue. As far as horror and suspense he was the trend setter for everything in the modern age.

My personal favorite is Fall of the House of Usher: a story about a guy in love with his sister and premature burial…weirdddddddddddddddddd !!! :o)

Edgar Allan Poe’s mystery and science fiction are underacknowledged by realist literary critics. Poe was a pioneer in both genres, and together they constitute, in bulk, half of his short tales. He is considered the father of the American short story and the father of both the horror genre and the detective novel. His stories of murder, revenge, and paranoia are still popular, more than 150 years after his premature (and mysterious) death. Many readers wonder where he came up with the ideas for his stories, and what type of a man would write such horrifying tales.Poe inspired such writers as
    Jules Verne,Kipling, Lovecraft and others.
