wow. RUME, you did a great job of answering his question.

    NOT.

anywho, they are not known to attack humans, and they wont when they have their natural pray, but people are animals too, and we have blood like animals, and if there is no other source of food, then they will attack humans if they are around. its unlikely, but it happens. i dont believe anyone has died from one though.

Vampire bats are bats whose food source is blood, a dietary trait called hematophagy. There are three bat species that feed solely on blood: the common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus), the Hairy-legged Vampire Bat (Diphylla ecaudata), and the White-winged Vampire Bat (Diaemus youngi). All three species are native to the Americas, ranging from Mexico to Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

Vampire bats ear what ever is available. Unlikely you will die from a bite but you never know what disease the bat might be carrying. If you’re worried about it just wear clothing that covers everything as well as a hat. Your dad wins.

The small vampire bats in the lands of South America rather adroitly take blood from living cows and humans who are handy when cows aren’t about. The vampire bats don’t bite. as such. Their incisors are razor sharp. They use these teeth to shave away the thin layer of skin just at capillary level. At the same time an analgesic is placed in the wound via the bat’s siliva. Neither human or cow would wake from sleep because a vampire is feeding on them by licking the wound. The most dangerous thing about vampire bats is the chance of being infected with rabies.

    No.
    They bite livestock though.

They don’t usually bite people–they prefer to bit cattle. But they will bite people if they are hungry enough and find one. They will basically prey on any large mammal they can find.
