I have a question about Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

I just finished watching the first season, and in the final episode, Buffy is bitten by The Master. What I am wondering about, is why she is not turned into a Vampire herself. Is it explained in the next season?

she has to be bitten and then consume the blood of the vampire that bit her (the "sire") lots of people get bit, they dont get turned unless a vampire decides to turn them.

don’t stop watching buffy! its one of the greatest shows of all time, my favorite is season 5. you will be a full blown addict soon..

It’s actually explained in the first episode ‘Welcome To The Hellmouth’ S1,E1, during Buffy’s conversation with Giles…

Giles: "Is he, w-will he… rise
    again?"
    Buffy: "Who?"
    Giles: "The boy"
    Buffy: "No. He’s just dead."
    Giles: "Can you be sure?"
Buffy: "To make you a vampire they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It’s like a whole big sucking thing. Mostly they’re just gonna kill you. Why am I still talking to you?"

It can’t work just one way. A Buffyverse vampire drinking someones blood doesn’t turn them. There needs to be an EXCHANGE of blood.

Just because in Twilight, anyone who is bitten turns into a vamp, doesn’t mean it’s like that in other stories.

In the Buffy verse (and, actually, in a majority of vampire stories), in order to be turned into a vampire, a human must be drained of their blood, until they are almost dead, then they must drink the blood of the vampire. There is no "vampire venom" in the Buffy verse.

Only in Twilight does a person become a vamp by merely being bitten (that I know of). In the buffyverse, things are done the right way. The Vamp sucks you dry, then lets you taste his blood.
