I am in Bucharest on business. Anything unusual in the city to see that is not in the tour guides?
* No time to travel outside the city (so no Castle Dracula or monasteries)
* Have a full list of museums, parks, and the typical stuff already
* Looking for cool things to see/do that are not the typical tourist trap
* Not interested in "red light" activities
* Three of us visiting (2 men, one woman) from the US. None of us speak RO but we can ask a local co-worker to come with us.
Thank you!

Yeah - here are some ideas - places where Romanians go
Herastrau Park and you can visit Muzeul Satului - it's in the park
Cismigiu - another park (we like to walk, and it's good for you)
Eat at La Carul cu Bere - Romanian food, restaurant has been there for a long, long time
If you like Dancing go to Regie - student area -depends how old you are though, and where you feel comfortable - but Regie has many clubs, some crazy, some mild.
Eat a chicken shawerma, please, for me. The best one is by Dristor.
Also eat some mici with mustard and bread (chifle) and have a Ursus beer with them. I recommend La Hanul lui Manuc, it's close to Unirii Square and you can eat outside on the balcony. Oh, and get some papanasi with preserves (papanashi) for desert - they are awesome!
Hell - I wish I were there - I'd take you!
Have fun!

Did you eat at "Taverna Sarbului"? Or "Jaristea" restaurant? Try, don't worry…and you'll be happy.

I wouldn't say there is anything "unusual" or really special to see in Bucharest. Essentially all that Codrina mentioned are the "tourist" areas and are listed in the guides already. However, if you go on Strada Lipscani (pedestrian street which is just off Calea Victoriei, a high-end street of the city which leads to the Dambovita river and has a few peculiar commemorative statues for the Revolution) you can see some ruins which were just discovered this summer by construction crews.
And if you are interested in art, also off Lipscani you have the glass district where you can buy some of the better quality Gallé "Tip" vases (They have to be the ones from Buzau to be good). There are also artist studios around which are also interesting. If you want an open market experience you can go to Piata Obor (I think its the largest in the city).
As for food…stick to Romanian food…although they try to make international foods like sushi, shawarma, chinese, etc. they are usually not successful and often you waste your money. Apart from Caru cu bere, which is actually reasonably priced given its fame, you can also try Burebista on Calea Mosilor. There is also a pretty good restaurant in Bucharest Mall called "La Ancuta" (in the food court) - also serves authentic food with large portions and reasonable prices.
Anyway…the two parks that Codrina mentioned are really worth seeing…personally I like Herastrau, but Cismigiu is not without its charm. Also Parcu Tineretului usually has a lot of festivals and activities going on so check that out too.
The best mici I ate were in a beer garden in a park (forgot the name right now)…and in my opinion Ciuc is better than Ursus.
Well enjoy Bucharest as much as you can…
