Do you enjoy reading fantasy, vampire stories, paranormal, horror and sci-fi?
What do you like about them? I'm trying to understand what it is that attracts people to these genres.. I prefer realistic fiction (contemporary romance and thrillers..etc) and non fiction to them

I like to read fantasy and sci-fi because it is so different from everyday life. Though I am partial to a good thriller.

Fantasies are different…sometimes it just takes believing in something that’s not real to spark your imagination. Though romance and thrillers are good too.

I think it’s escapism. I love them personally, although i tend to go for those with a humorous twist like Terry Pratchett.

I love fantasy.
Because it takes me away from the world I’m so used to, and puts me in a different, exciting world. One with heroes, with villains, all the things we wish actually existed. Romance is awesome, but adding a few shadowhunters, faeries, wizards, vampires, and werewolves makes it SO much more exciting! I just love the creativity involved in a good fantasy story. When I read something like Harry Potter, I find myself wondering how someone could possibly have thought of such an impacting and amazing story.
So in short…Fantasy stories just give life a thrill, even if they aren’t real

I like fantasy novels because they allow me to escape the mundane. Who didn’t pretend they were a ferocious lion or other imaginary character? That part of my mind never went away. Instead of building forts, I now read books. The dirty dishes and financial issues can become completely forgotten, In realistic fiction, concerns of day to day life don’t go away, but just become the character’s. I’m not saying that realistic fiction can’t be creative and make a good read, just that if I wanted to immerse myself in human troubles, I could look at my own life.
